About the Authority
The Petroleum Development Authority of Sri Lanka (PDASL) was established on 8th October 2021 under the Petroleum Resources Act No. 21 of 2021, following the repeal of the Petroleum Resources Act No. 26 of 2003.
The establishment of PDASL, by replacing the former Petroleum Resources Development Secretariat (PRDS), marked a significant step towards creating an independent regulator for the management and regulation of all petroleum exploration, development, and production operations (upstream) within Sri Lanka.
In particular, the PDASL stands responsible for implementing the provisions of the Act and ensuring that petroleum operations are carried out using good oil field practices, while also adhering to good health, safety and environmental practices.

The administration, management and the control of the affairs of the Authority is vested in the Board of Directors composed of four (04) eminent industry experts nominated by the Hon. Minister of Energy, whose qualifications are prescribed by Petroleum Resources Regulations, No. 1 of 2021, and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, plus five (05) ex-officio members as follows:
